Has Been Turning Its Back on Socio-environmental Problems

Post by 66chandona »

I am referring to what we could call a “negative ideology”, where what is important is not so much what one is and what one is fighting for, as what one is not and what one is fighting against . And it is that to a large extent the new extreme right stands out for that anti character. If historians such as Zeev Sternhell already stressed that the fascism of the past should be understood as a cultural struggle against the legacy of the Enlightenment and that of the French Revolution, it should be added that, mutatis mutandis, a similar fight is the one that wants to raise in the present.

And this mutatis mutandis is explained by the updating of that tradition against which they are fighting and, for example, the role played in these rhetorics by now central special data such asfeminism, queer theory or immigrants against whom Conspiracy theories have been launched such as that of the "great replacement", popularized by Renaud Camus (although its origin dates back to Jean Raspail) and widely used by Orbán, Salvini or Marine Le Pen. Along the same lines, related words have been promoted such as the German Umvolkung[ethnic inversion]. As is known, another of the most popular, flexible and transversal conspiracy theories is the one centered on the figure of the Jewish magnate and financier George Soros.

Thus, and in continuity with the aspects indicated by Ferrand Gallego in the aforementioned passage, it must be taken into account that the fascist style is also characterized by wanting to make a pragmatic synthesis between the past and the present. In the same way that in the last century the contexts have changed, including the problems and the political contenders, from the fascist tradition it is also understood that the answers or the approaches may have to be others. In addition, we must not forget either that, in countries like Italy or Germany, historical fascism failed miserably and that along the way it reached intolerable extremes even for many neo-fascists.
